Something Down His Sock...

He finally did it! Matt popped the BIG question!

This past week, Matt told me his brother's family wanted to host another dinner for us on Friday. I didn't think too much of it because Joni (Matt's sister-in-law) is always doing things like this with her kids. Matt took me to their home and we were welcomed by 9 year old Susan who politely seated us. Our 11 year old waitress, Caitlyn, brought out the menus and informed us that if the table candles blew out, we just needed to let her know. The restaurant managers (Ashley, age 5 and Jacob, age 4) came out to check on how we were enjoying our meal. Jacob poked Matt's pizza, and as Ashley was walking away, she kept starring at us and then proclaimed, "I like your hair, Cindy." (Such service!)

Throughout the dinner, hints of our relationship surfaced - our favorite music playing in the background, "I Hate BYU" place mats, Pizza Pie Cafe pizza, our Valentine's day tablecloth and candles, A vase of tulips, Chocolate Molten cake, and finally - a hand-delivered Yahoo! "email" message. Matt had me read his "email" aloud (a love note) and then he got on one knee, lifted up his pant leg, pulled a ring box out of his sock, and proposed! And of course I said "Yes!"

Pictures we took after we realized we should have had the Andersons take pictures while at their home.

Reinacting the proposal (Okay, okay, okay... I wasn't really this shocked. After all the little clues Matt gave me, I had an inkling it was coming.)

A surprise kiss

PS - We tried taking a picture of the ring,
but my camera couldn't handle the glare.
Bling! Bling!

Wisdom from 5-Year-Olds

Every day in kindergarten, we do Writers' Workshop. One of the components is to model how to think of an idea and write about it. I encourage my students to write about something they did the day before or something they're looking forward to. To model this, I tell them brief stories about my personal life. (They love it.) I have told them about my "friend" Matt and a lot of the fun things we do together. (They are all ears.) Today, my students asked if I was going to marry Matt. I told them I hoped so, and that I just needed to convince him to marry me! Then I asked them, "What should I do to get Matt to ask me to marry him?" Their responses:

"Have your mom ask him."

"Put candy in his room." (Apparently, this worked for this particular student's teenage sister's prom date.)

"Give him a married suit."

"Wear high heels and eyeliner."

"Give him money."

"Say, 'Do you want to marry me, Sweet Cheeks?'"

"Sing him a song - like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Skinamarink."

"Go on a date."

"Give him love potion."

"Wear lots of make-up and jewelry."

"Make him Hawaiian Haystacks for dinner."

"Give him ice cream."

"Blow him a kiss."

I intend to do ALL of the above.

Dr. Sorensen DVM

This past weekend, Tyler graduated from Colorado State University's veterinary program. Mom, Dad and I traveled to Ft. Collins to see the graduation ceremony and help Tyler and Amber move to Gunnison where Tyler has accepted a job at the Gunnison Valley Animal Clinic.

We're so proud of you, Tyler!

Hail the Conquering Graduate!

After the graduation, we went up the canyon to have a BBQ with 2 of Tyler's classmates and their families.

The trip ALMOST went off without a hitch. We were turning a corner in Gunnison on our way home and my dad's truck's tire flew off and went rolling down the road. Luckily, a mechanic was 10 feet away when it happened. Just think if this would have happened on the freeway pulling a trailer with T's and A's home inside!!! Yikes. Good thing we prayed for safety before we left.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

Top 5 Reasons Why I Love My Mom:

1. She's my best friend. I know I can always go to her when I need her. We've been through 31 years of life together - both of us needing each other at different times in our lives. Throughout the years, we've laughed ourselves silly, and shared in our tears.

2. She's a hard worker. She's not afraid to tackle any chore i.e. planting a garden, installing insulation in the cabin, taking the time to be an outstanding teacher, and of course - moving heavy furniture! (Inside joke.)

3. She is spiritually amazing. She understands the gospel of Jesus Christ and lives it. She has been an amazing example to her four children and taught us to understand and live the gospel as well.

4. She's creative and talented. Anything my mom does always turns out stupendous - whether it's writing/directing a 5th grade play, teaching a Relief Society lesson, putting together a primary float, calligraphy, or sewing a quilt.

5. She's kind to others. Someone once told her that SHE should be THE ward welcoming committee. She extends herself to others, makes them feel welcome, and shows genuine love toward them.

I love you, Mom! Happy Mother's Day!!!
