From July 9-15, Matt and Gavin attended a Scout Camp in Wyoming. The place was called Camp Loll and it was between Yellowstone National Park and the Tetons. Gavin passed off his Scout and almost his Tenderfoot so it was a great experience where lots of requirements were passed off. Gavin signed up for first aide, shooting, and trail to first class. They prepared their own food, went hiking, kayaking, archery, and enjoyed the fresh air. They were in bear country so they had to be very careful with food scraps and if anything smelled, they had to put it in a bear box - a locked compartment that the bears couldn't get in to.
Amongst all the fun was a lot of BLOOD. Every day, Gavin got a bloody nose, and these weren't your average bloody noses - Matt swears he lost pints and pints of blood. Gavin also tripped and fell on his right knee. A huge chunk of flesh came out and he had to go to first aide. The medic put tons of alcohol on his wound and scrubbed away the imbedded pebbles. Gavin didn't even flinch. The medic was so shocked. He told Gavin that most boys would be screaming out of pain. But not Gavin! This boy interprets pain so differently than most people due to his sensory processing disorder. A similar story can be read when he broke him arm back in August of 2019.
They went on a 6 mile hike. It would have been 8 miles, but one of the scouts got heat exhaustion and the group had to stay together until the boy was taken care of.
Gavin LOVED shooting!! The instructor was pretty awesome and was a great teacher.
This flower is called Bear Grass. It only blooms once every 4-7 years.

Meanwhile back in Saratoga Springs:
Laynie convinced mom to do all kinds of things - like cake decorating, inviting friends over, sleeping in her bed, buying her Lilo and Stitch clothes, and reading to her. We read the book, Walk Two Moons.
