Baby Food and Sitting Up

Laynie has tried lots of pureed foods.  She loves 'em all - except for the rice cereal.  I can't bring myself to eat that stuff either.  She'll even eat veggies.  Gavin hated them - and still does.

Laynie can sit up unassisted now.  But still loves to be held all the time.

Pioneer Day

On the 24th of July, we went to Eagle Mtn and had dinner and fireworks with the Anderson Gang.  Gavin loved the Sparklers.  We had some left over and had a "sparkler fest" the next day at our house before bedtime.

No Longer a Baby, but Always MY Baby

Ever since being potty trained this boy has seemed to grow up in exponential bounds!  He dresses himself, washes his hands, buckles himself in his car seat, combs his own hair, and attempts to write his name.  I know he'll always be my baby, but when I try to explain this to him, he clearly insists he's not a baby anymore.

Under the Sea

For our 4 year anniversary, we treated ourselves to Hale Center Theatre's The Little Mermaid.  Matt and I love going to musicals and plays, but it's hard to find time to attend when you have kids and all your money is spent on diapers and formula!  Ha, ha!  ;)  Matt's parents came up to babysit and we got to go "under the sea" for 3 hours of kid-less entertainment.  Needless to say, we really enjoyed ourselves.  (My only complaint was Ariel's hair - it was much too fake looking...)

4th of July FUN!

Grandma Sorensen came up on July 1st to visit, then on the night of the 2nd, Gavin, Alayna and I traveled down with her to Mt. Pleasant's Hub City Days Family Fun Rodeo.  This is the 2nd year in a row I attended (3rd for Grandma).  Each year Grandma participates in the "Granny Race."  Any granny is eligible.  They have to run with a stick horse between their legs, all the while holding a cup of water in their mouth with their teeth.  Two years ago, Grandma took 2nd; Last year, she won.  This year, she tried to defend her title against 7 other grannies (one of which was much younger with really long legs.)  The race began and Grandma gave it all she had.  The outcome:  tied for first with the long-legged granny who was at least 15 years her junior!  So they had a tie-breaker, and this video says it all:

When you get bucked off, you gotta let the horse know who's in charge by getting back on, and that's just what Grandma did!
(PS - It turned out the long-legged granny didn't hold the stick horse between her legs and she was actually the organizer of the entire rodeo so she forfeited and Grandma got the $30 gift certificate to Ruby River Steakhouse after all!)

Buzz, Brett, Gavin and Karen at the rodeo
On the night of the 3rd, Matt traveled to Gunnison just in time for us to attend Gunnison's concert in the park.  Jagertown (pronounced Yagertown) came this year and put on quite a show...

but not nearly as great as the one Gavin put on for us!  Check out his dance moves!!

Fireworks ended the event and we went home to some much needed sleep.

The parade began the morning of the 4th.  I love Gunnison's parade!

This was about 1/2 of Gavin's stash.

Laynie-bug and Daddy

It was a hot n sunny day!

This entry was my favorite!  About 20 Latinos dressed this way as part of the Latino Club.  I'm sure they were melting inside those costumes by the end of the parade route, but it was awesome!!

Grandma/pa

Danny, Carl, and Carly

After the parade we went to the park so Gavin could do a few of the activities/rides.

Cupcake walk

Dig in, buddy!

Laynie loves anything plastic these days.

Kiss me!

Then we went to Wayne and Ann's for the Sorensen BBQ.  I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the Sorensens or all the flies on the food!!

We ended our 4th of July festivities by going to the matinee of Inside Out at the Star Theatre.  I was slightly disappointed.  I had heard rave reviews, but felt like the movie was predictable and didn't allow you to connect with the characters at a deeper level.  This was Laynie's first movie, and she did GREAT!  Gavin's first movie was at the age of 2 years, 9 months.  Two VERY different energy levels / personalities.

Flips Gymnastics

Gavin finished his gymnastics class on June 30th.  It was a 5 week, 5 session deal.  I'm glad I put Gavin in it as a way to channel his energy, but I'm also glad it's over.  Matt will give him a few swimming lesson in August and that'll be it for his "extra-curricular" summer adventures.

Zoo-rasic Park

My friend, Chelsea, and her two kids came to the zoo with us.  Chelsea's little boy, James, is Gavin's age and we both have baby girls.  The boys were in for a treat b/c there were some animals of the pre-historic nature at the zoo this time.  Life-size, robotic dinosaurs roamed the grounds.  It was really cute to see the kids' reactions.

This dino spit "venom," scaring our 3 year olds.

The carosel

How do you measure up to an orangutan?

Afterward, we met up with Daddy and ate lunch at the Lion House Cafe.  Yummy!
