At the end of February, we noticed that our rabbit, Max, was in a lot of pain. He would hobble around and not put any weight on one of his front legs. We thought maybe he had broken it. So we waited a couple weeks, and it just wasn't getting any better. So we decided to take him to the vet.
Tyler did some x-rays and discovered a dislocated joint. He tried many times to pop it back in, but each time, it would pop out again. We had two options: put Max down or amputate. My vote was to put him to sleep. Pretty sure no bunny wants to go at this life with a missing limb. Matt and the kids voted to amputate. Tyler was willing to try - letting us know it was good practice for him b/c he'd never done this to a rabbit before.

A few weeks ago, we said good bye to Gladys Knight and the Peeps, Brenda and Elinore. They were big bullies and were making life hard for Wanda and Samantha, our other two hens. Then a week later, we went out and got 4 new baby chicks! Each of us got to adopt one of them and name them. This is what we got:
Dad's chick: Beverly an Americauna
Mom's chick: Henrietta a Buff Orpington
Gavin's chick: Rosie a Speckled Sussex
Alayna's chick: Amber an Amber Sexlink
We made sure we got kid friendly, mellow-tempered hens this go around. Hopefully the pecking order won't be so brutal. We will need to say goodbye to Wanda and Samantha at the end of Summer. It'll be hard. Wanda has stollen our hearts and Samantha lays a beautiful olive egg.
Laynie had her first dance competition and her team took first place in her age group. Once again, Laynie dazzled the crowd, and each time she does, her confidence increases.
My crocuses are up! Spring is definitely in the air! We had some beautiful weather that ended due to a winter storm that came in. Can't complain because Utah only has 70% of the snowpack we need. Hopefully the storm that came through this weekend brought that up significantly. Water supply has always worried me. Maybe it's because I'm a farmer's daughter? I tend to worry about things that are out of my control as well. I guess the best thing to do is to make sure our water storage is adequate for when we will need it.
My boy is growing up. He surprised me one Sunday by preparing lunch for our family: turkey sandwiches, chips and o.j.
Our nephew Braden got engaged and asked me to take a few engagements pictures of his fiancé (Alaura) and him. We met up at the International Peace Gardens in WVC. We had a fun time walking around the park looking for great photo ops!
