Odds n Ends in August

Matt's work had their end of summer party at Cherry Hill Water Park on August 14th.

Gavin and Matt out for a nice August bike ride in preparation for their 50 miler.

Brittney turned 45 on August 11th.  We celebrated her on the 16th of August.

Hosting a scout activity in our basement.

On August 27th, Matt and I went to WVC and met with Dr Call. (Yes, the same doctor that oversaw my care the first time I went through chemo... or did he really, since I only saw his PA the whole time...???)  Dr. Call is now head of a clinical trial company called START.  we went over our options for what trial would be best for me.

Our old house burned down!!!  Good bye Willow Springs, Apt. J-9!!  So sad to hear of this.

And just like that... School Begins!

8th and 5th grades!

Gavin's 2nd year in middle school.  I hope he rocks it!  He has a pretty amazing group of friends at LakeView Academy that I'm so grateful for.  His schedule is as follows:
A-Days:  Space Tech, Study Skills, Art, Science, Math
B-Days:  Digital Literacy, US History, Language Arts, Science, Math

Laynie's last year of elementary (because 6th grade is a transitional year, and it doesn't really seem like elementary to me.)  She was thrilled to have Ms. Zaelit as her teacher.  She LOVES school and has been looking forward to returning after 79 days of summer!

The kids' school is undergoing some construction this year.  They are adding more classrooms, another theatre stage, bigger lunchroom, and adding on to their space center.  It's been a bit of a headache so far, but I guess that comes with growing.

Laynie's class made the school's fb post so I copied the picture.  You can see Laynie close to the whiteboard in the center table.

Matt's work had an end of summer party at Cherry Hill.  We had a lot of fun playing mini golf and swimming.  My feet were giving me grief - Achilles Tendinitis, so I opted to just sit and read a book while the others did the pool fun.

Give me Some-more Summer!!!!!!

This summer was packed full of wonderful events.  For the most part, I was healthy and able to keep up with Gavin and Laynie and all that they wanted to do.  We made memories and life seemed relatively normal.  I'm not sure if I'll have another summer like it, so I soaked it all up, while I could.  I didn't want it to end...

A few summer pics that didn't quite make their own post...

Gavin gave a lesson in his Deacon's quorum.
Laynie had an oral surgery to extract a tooth and remove extra tissue around her gum line.  She recovered quite quickly from it - probably within 3 days, she was almost back to her usual self.

My thyroid had a fairly large growth on it, so I had to have a scope put down my nose and 5 needles stuck in my neck to take a biopsy of it.  Luckily, it was benign.

Matt's Uncle Ron and Aunt Kathrine came over for a visit from Ukiah, California.

Laynie and 2 of her friends started a Kindness Club this summer.  When we hosted, we sewed felt hearts to give to a non-profit called Hearts Knit Together who puts kids together for those in need.

delivering the hearts

We took Millie to the new dog park in Saratoga a few times.  She is such a good pup.  We really lucked out.  She does well around other dogs and she rarely barks.  We love our Silly Millie.

The kids convinced me to have a yard sale.  I did NOT want to do it, but I used it as a way to push me to de-junk my home.  I felt like a wasn't able to get all of my home de-junked, but a good portion of it was and the yard sale turned out to be a bit more lucrative than I thought it would be, so it made it worth it.

The main road (aka: Foothill, 800 N, or Mountain View Corridor) outside our subdivision underwent some major construction.  So much so, that they had to shut the road down and we had to wind out of our neighborhood on all sorts of side roads for about 5 weeks.

Gavin and Dad went on quite a few bike rides in order to prepare for "Bike the Bear."  They will bike 50 miles around Bear Lake mid-September.

ShowBiz Kids

Laynie had the fun opportunity to be a part of ShowBiz Kids, a musical theatre experience, put on by my cousin Carly Corie.  It was darling!
It's time to play the music!  It's time to light the lights!  At the ShowBiz Kids tonight!
