Pioneer Day

Matt had the day off work so we went to Bountiful City's fireworks show on the 23rd.  Every time Gavin saw a firework, he would say with excitement, "Pop!"
The next day, we went to the Carnival at the park.  We got to see a Wild West Stunt Show which was quite entertaining.  Gavin is pictured with the sheriff here.

Then we walked around the park and saw all the sights.  We only let Gavin choose 2 rides because they were kind of expensive.

He chose the Train Ride, of course,

And the Swing Ride.

Here he is NOT smiling - just like they did in pioneer days!

Then we went to Eagle Mtn for Tank Wars with Matt's family.

Gerald and Piggie

I love it that Gavin loves to be read to each day.  Right now, his favorite books are Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie books, particularly the book, We Are in a Book!  I love how he gets all the humor in them and will laugh hysterically during the funny parts.  Plus, I like reading anything Mo Willems.  He's brilliant.

Other favorite books of Gavin's right now:
Rosemary Wells' Max and Ruby books,
Anything with trains - particularly Thomas the Train books.

Sneaky Peeky

Here's a little peek at our baby at 12 weeks.  He/she's a little over 2.5 inches long and about the size of a lime.  Dr. Beckstead tried listening to the baby's heart beat but couldn't hear it, so he asked if we were in a hurry to go, and if not, he'd boot up the ultrasound machine and we could look at the baby and get its heart beat from the ultrasound.  He kept reassuring me that it's common not to be able to hear it this early.  I wasn't worried at all b/c I knew all the sickness I'd been experiencing was coming from a living fetus inside me, but I think he wanted to make sure everything was okay.  I was kinda paranoid about all the extra fees that seem to get tacked on, but he assured us it wouldn't cost anything.  So we got to see our little munchkin!

He/she was snuggled at the bottom of my uterus just as calm as ever.  (Complete opposite from Gavin's ultrasound at 11 weeks.  He was doing all kinds of gymnastics moves - knowing Gavin's temperament now, I'm sure he was just showing off.)   Hoping this is an omen of things to come and this baby will be calm, mellow, and sleep well.  (Once again, the complete opposite from Gavin!)  The baby's heart beat was right where it should be, and our doctor was relieved.  ;)

I had a little impression that it's going to be a girl, but maybe it's just because I'm hoping for one.  Don't get me wrong.  I'll be happy either way, but you'd want another female in the house if you had to grow up with all brothers.  TRUST me.

Other News:

Gavin has been teething - his bottom 2 year old molars are coming in.  The top 2 molars will be the last ones to come in then, Hallelujah! No more teething for this kid!  I've heard some parents say, "I didn't even know he was teething and then I looked in his mouth and saw 2 little teeth already making their way through."  Really?  With each one of Gavin's teeth it has been fevers, diarrhea, crankiness, excessive drooling, and even sickness.

Yesterday, Matt and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary!  What?  Only 3 years?  (It feels like it's been 10!)  Trying to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing...  :)  I made a nice meal and decorated the table with things from our wedding day.  Matt brought home a nice plant with flowers of purple and blue (our wedding colors), then Matt and I went to the temple and did sealings.  I'm so glad I have Matt in my life.  I was so lonely and always felt a constant void in my life before we met.  The last 3 years have been a whirlwind of adventure.  Something new always happening, something to always look forward to, and someone to always share it with.

A Fun-Filled Fourth

Good thing he's wearing sunglasses 'cause the sun is definitely in his eyes.  :)

Gunnison parade continues to amaze with how much candy, t-shirts, frisbees, etc. they throw out.

Have I mentioned I've been craving Subway sandwiches with this pregnancy?  With Gavin it was chips and salsa.  This float kinda made my mouth water...

After the parade, Gavin met this furry fellow.  :)

The Fish Pond

Gavin was supposed to just pick a duck and match the number on the bottom to a prize.  Instead he just played in the water for about 10 minutes.

Gavin's favorite ride - the train.  He rode it 3 times.

BBQ at Tyler and Amber's house.  Gavin didn't want to eat, can you see why?

Went to the cabin that evening.  T put up his zip line and my camera died right before Matt braved the descent.

Family Fun Night at the Rodeo

We went to Mt. Pleasant's Family Fun Night Rodeo on the 3rd of July.  Best rodeo I've ever been to.  They involved the audience members and had fun/silly competitions like musical tires (played like musical chairs, but the horse riders have to jump off their horses and put one foot in a tire.)

Grandma joined in on the Granny Race and WON!  You should have seen her give a high five to the person in charge as she crossed the finish line.  I have it all on video, but for some reason, it just won't load.  :(

Gavin didn't care much for the rodeo, but he sure loved running up and down the bleachers.

The last event was the trailer race.  The drivers had to get out of their truck, unload their horse, saddle it, ride around the arena, tie the horse up then jump back in their truck and honk their horn.

We stopped in at Tyler and Amber's place for a few fireworks on the way home.

Fayette Springs

On July 3rd, We took a little trip to the Fayette Springs to catch minnows and wade in the water.  Grandma bought the boys their very own net.

We're Goin' on a Snail Hunt!

Rainy days are the best days for catching snails.

Gavin had THE time of his life being out in the rain.

 What a good daddy.

Escargot, anyone?
Only a fraction of the snails the boys caught.  Snails are so gross!
