So Precious

Thank you, Nanoodles for taking these (and many more) pics!

Gavin has crooked fingers just like me.

He likes to suck on his lower lip.

So tiny!

He loves his daddy.

Sweet Baby Gavin

Gavin Matthew Anderson arrived at 10:32 am on Friday, April 6, 2012. He weighed a whopping 8 lbs 7 oz and was 20 inches long. Here's his story:

Friday, 1:40 am - Mommy went into labor and tried to wake up Daddy. Daddy didn't believe her and tried to go back to bed.
2:15 am - Made it to the hospital. Mommy was 6 cm dilated so they took her to a birthing room and put in an epidural. Ahhhhhhh... (She was relieved.)
3:30 am - Mommy's blood pressure was extremely high so she was treated for toxemia and given yucky Magnesium Sulphate which made her throw up multiple times.
6:30 am - Dr. Welch came in and declared the baby would be born soon and he'd come back in a couple of hours to start the delivery process.
9:00 am - Dr. Welch came back and everyone got ready to welcome me. BUT there was one problem: Daddy was missing. (He had gone out to the car to get the camera.) Luckily, Dr. Welch was willing to wait 5 minutes. :)
10:15 am - After an hour of pushing, I still didn't want to come out. Mommy was getting tired and my heart rate started to drop so Dr. Welch called for the forceps.
10:32 am - I was born! Mommy quickly made sure I had all 10 fingers/toes and Daddy couldn't stop smiling. Daddy clipped/cut my umbilical cord.

I was taken to a station where I was wiped down, measured then weighed.
8 lbs. 7 oz!!!! (Mommy couldn't believe how big I was.) I had a cone head for the first 2 hours of life. Luckily it went away. :)

Daddy went with me to get my blood pressure, oxygen levels and measurements checked. Then they gave me my first bath. At first, I didn't like it...

but then I LOVED it...

I got foot printed
and then they wrapped me up all snugly and warm. While Daddy and I were having all this fun, Mommy had to get lots and lots of stitches. She had lost 1/2 the red blood cell count in her body and ended up fainting twice.

Grandma Sorensen came to visit, (We share the same birthday, ya know.)

and so did Grandpa and Grandma Anderson.
Then lots more aunts, uncles and cousins came to welcome me. I was feeling pretty darn special.

I got discharged from the hospital 1 day before Mommy, but I stayed with her because she needed me.

Then on Monday, April 9th I got to go home.

Daddy carried me out to the car,

and I slept the entire way home.

Mommy and Daddy sure love having me around. They keep whispering to me that they love me so much - even when I make messy diapers or wake them up in the middle of the night. :)

Egg-citing Times

The other day, Matt brought home an egg dying kit from the store.

We decided to dye the eggs tonight b/c I will most likely have Baby Gavin tomorrow and we weren't sure how festive we'd feel for the upcoming Easter holiday.

I'm not too fond of hard-boiled eggs, so guess what Matt will be eating a lot of in the next week or so?

Helping Us Get Ready For Gavin...

On March 3rd, my good friends, Christina and Brittney, hosted a baby shower for Gavin. Thanks ladies! It was sooooo fun!

We had a nice lunch (soup, rolls and a chocolate fountain).

It was an open house, so I wasn't able to get a picture of everyone that came.

Then on March 12, my sweet co-worker (Denise) hosted a baby shower for 3 teachers that were having babies. I think there's a total of 10 of us at my school that are having babies this spring/early summer. I don't have pictures of the shower b/c I forgot my camera, but Denise made each of us this cute rubber ducky cake:

On March 16, my room moms hosted a "baby celebration." During centers time, the students played games and did activities centered around a baby theme. I think this helped get my students excited about and used to the idea of a baby coming and taking their teacher away for 6 weeks. Since then, my students have been bringing in Pokemon cards (for the baby when he's 5 years old), writing books about him, drawing him pictures, and making him gifts. Here's one of my favorites:

Here's a close-up at the pictures. (So cute!)

Just the other day, a student asked me, "How is your baby going to come out, anyway?" I wasn't sure what to say so I stumbled over a few words until another student piped up, "They have to cut your belly open and take the baby out." Phew. "Yes. Yes. That's right," I said. Then another child exclaimed, "My mom told me I came out through her bum."

The next day, my 2 sisters-in-law that live here in Eagle Mountain (Misti and Joni) hosted a "Couples/Anderson Family" baby shower. I LOVED this idea because Matt could come.

Racing to dress the babies.

Bobbe gave Gavin his first cardigan. Needless to say, Matt was elated.

This is what our baby could look like. (A striking resemblance to Matt, wouldn't you say?)

We can't wait to meet you, Baby Gavin!
Thanks everyone for helping us get ready for our little guy.

The Waiting Game

Don't you want to come out?!?

Statistics:
3.5 cm dilated.
90% effaced.
0 stationed.

Contractions are very inconsistent. They're mostly just irritable - waking me up for a couple hours each night; having a tight, tight belly; sore back; I don't want to eat (Matt is shocked at this one); nausea; etc. The baby has dropped pretty far down that it hurts to bend over and pick things up. (I have decided it's okay to let things be on the floor for a while.)

The doctor is willing to strip my membranes when I go in again on Wednesday. I think I'll let him do it. I'm sick of being preggers...

In the meantime, I HAVE to go back to work tomorrow. Boo-hoo!!!! I think part of maternity leave should be before the baby arrives if the mother requests it. I'm going to be so ineffective...
