The kids finished their 1st and 4th grades at Lakeview Academy! Can I just say how much I LOVE this school?!! The administration is superb, teachers are kind and caring, the culture of the school radiates being capable, caring and cooperative. We didn't experience any of that at the public school Gavin attended K-2. It was heartbreaking as a mom to see your child excited for the school year, only to not want to go by the time January hit. I volunteered at the public school and saw first hand how students weren't caring and kind, how the teacher was more negative than positive, and how the administrators felt like they knew more about your child than you did. Luckily, we live equal distance away from Lakeview Academy Charter School - a place where my children can thrive and a place they want to be 9 out of 9 months of the school year!
Even with all the support we had in place for Gavin to succeed this year, his 4th grade year was still challenging due to what would soon be diagnosed as ADHD, ASD and ODD. But his teacher was just what he needed, and his peers were still kind and understanding. The administration agreed with me that Gavin would thrive best in hybrid school day. So beginning in February, I'd pick him up at 1pm and bring him home to teach him writing. This way, he would miss out on PE and Music - two of his most challenging classes due to sensory issues. It worked out really well. Gavin was able to unwind after holding it all together for 5 hours and he worked hard each day for me at home, improving in his writing skills.
Laynie had a wonderful 1st grade year. Ms. Rogers was her teacher and she told me that Laynie's class was the most accepting and kind class she's ever had. Laynie made lots of friends, boys and girls alike. Her confidence in herself increased, and she became a fabulous reader. She loved going to school each day and can't wait to start 2nd grade.
My preschool kids had their last day on Thursday, May 26th. I will miss them! It's hard being a teacher - especially in May, because you have to send these little humans on to bigger and greater things and part of you wants to keep them this way forever! We had an outdoor class party - filled with a picnic, water slide, parachute, potato sack race and more!
