Yesterday, we ran out of diapers. A good reason to start potty training, right? I've had an action plan ready - one that I think suits Gavin's personality the best. It entails:
1. Cut out the diapers completely.
2. Let the boy go nakey while in the house, and if we NEED to go out, he can wear underwear or a pull-up.
3. Set the kitchen timer for 30 minute increments. When it rings, he needs to sit on his potty.
4. Have most of his play time be on the kitchen floor with his potty close by.
5. Give the kid incentives: a coin for his piggy bank every time he uses the potty, and moving Thomas along the track to win a Thomas prize after twelve successful potty experiences.
Well, today he woke up and we started the process. Between each attempt, there were some power struggles, a few complaints, and a fit thrown here and there.
1st attempt: SUCCESS! Pee pee in the potty!
2nd attempt: peed a bit on the floor but made it to the toilet for the majority of his pee pee.
3rd attempt: Major FAIL - big, BIG puddle.
4th attempt: SUCCESS! More pee pee in the potty!
5th and Final attempt: (See picture/caption below)
"Mommy! It's a cheese roll up!"
(We use wheat tortillas for our roll ups, and he'd just eaten one. In one hole; out the other, he thought...)
In his defense, I got distracted with feeding Alayna and forgot to put the seat back on his potty.
Hoping tomorrow is a lot less dramatic and a little more successful...
