Easter 2014

The Easter Bunny came on Saturday and left a trail of eggs from Gavin's bedroom door to the place he hid the basket full of goodies.

 Gavin tried opening EVERY SINGLE egg on his way there until we convinced him they were all empty.

Probably his most favorite thing in his basket, and I'm pretty sure the Easter Bunny found it at DI for only $1.

We went to Eagle Mountain to have a little Easter Egg Hunt with the Anderson cousins.  Gavin had to open each egg and dump the contents into the bag before he'd find another egg.

Back in the Saddle Again...

I'm back in the [teaching] saddle again.  (Well...  kinda.)  About a month and a half ago, I started substitute teaching once a week.  Doing so allows me to earn points to renew my teaching license.

The other day, I substituted a 1st grade class.  The morning bell rang, students filed in and I began introducing myself.  Then a boy named Cole came into the classroom clinging to his mom.  He was in obvious distress and the other children told me he was crying because he was scared to have a sub.  I assured him everything would be okay and let him know that I was a little nervous too.  I asked his mom if she could stay awhile and she agreed.  After 15 minutes, mom told Cole goodbye and left the classroom.  Five minutes later, Cole asked to use the bathroom.  I said to him, "You won't try to go after your mom, will you?"  He assured me he wouldn't.  "You'll just go to the bathroom and come right back?"  "Yes," was his response.  Only... he didn't come back.  I sent another student to the restroom to check on him and he came back reporting that Cole was nowhere to be found!

G.R.E.A.T.......

I quickly wrote a note to the secretary explaining the situation and sent another student to the office with it.

Within seconds, the words:  "Cole Jorgensen: Please come to the office." sounded through the school's intercom system.  A few minutes later, the same words echoed in our classroom a second time.

Then the classroom phone rang.  I answered.  The secretary informed me that during this entire time, Cole had been sitting in an office chair waiting to phone his mother!

The secretary brought him back to class and the rest of the day went off without a hitch.  At the very end of the day, I pulled Cole aside and asked him, "Cole, were you afraid to come today because another sub yelled at your class??"  He lowered his gaze and said, "Yes.  But I didn't know you were nice."

Too funny!  Oh how I miss being around kids this age!

Birthday Party Under Construction!

To celebrate Gavin's birthday, Grandma/pa Anderson came over for Sunday dinner then the next day we had a little "Digger" party with a couple of his nursery friends.

I loved the way the cake turned out.  It was super easy and actually FUN to make. 

 Gavin wasn't too sure what was expected of him here.  We all kept telling him, "Just blow out the candle, buddy."  (But he wouldn't.)

 Gift from Grandma/pa Anderson.  Gavin's life will NEVER be the same. 

 Grandma Viv (one of my awesome visiting teachers) dropped by right before the party and I had to get a picture with her and the birthday boy.  (Gavin LOVES Grandma Viv.)

April 6th

April 6th is a pretty special day.  Jesus Christ was born on this day in 0 AD.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was established on this day in 1830.  My mom was born on this day in 1955.  And... my little G-Man came into the world on this day 2 years ago.

Favorite Books: Max and Ruby books, Go Away Big, Green Monster!, and Elizabiti's Doll  (Elizabiti's Doll is about a little African girl that doesn't have a doll so she uses a rock for one instead.  Gavin loves this book, and when we're outside he'll find his own "rock baby" to hold and put in his pocket.)

Cute Sayings: "Come on, Mommy!"  "Let's race!"  "I wuv you too, Mommy."  After asking for something, I'll ask him if that's what he wants, just to clarify.  Instead of saying yes, his eyes will get real big then he'll bob his head up and down and say, "OK!"  (As if I was the one that came up with the idea in the first place.)

Favorite Places:  parks, Deseret Industries (local thrift store), nursery each Sunday, and our back yard.
