My sister-in-law, Joni, and I got together and took pics of Baby G. We had so much fun posing a sleeping baby. Unfortunately, our fun ended once he woke up and refused to be poked, prodded, shifted and shimmied! Here are a few of my favorites:

Good-bye Grammy
On April 20th, Matt's Grandma passed away. The following weekend, we traveled to Sheridan, WY to attend her funeral. Grandma Herriges will be missed by all.
Gavin and Great Grandpa Herriges
Martin's Cove, Wyoming
On our way home from Matt's grandma's funeral, we stopped at Martin's Cove. My 3rd Great Grandfather, James Mellor, and his family were part of the Martin Handcart Co. Jame's rifle is featured in the museum.
Here is a story about my 3rd Great Grandmother, Mary Ann Payne Mellor:
While on the trail, a few weeks before the last terrible crossing of the Platte River, Mary Ann had felt overcome with weakness and a wave of homesickness. She persuaded the family to let her stop and rest beside the trail. The company could not wait for her, so James said goodbye, promising to return after getting the children settled in camp. Mary Ann kissed each of the children and tried to reassure them. Louisa told her sister, Elizabeth, to take care of the rest of the family and that she would stay with their mother. After a while, Mary Ann became quite discouraged and she sat down on a boulder and wept. Louisa had faith that the Lord would help her know what to do. She said that she went a few yards away from where her mother was, knelt and prayed with faith that God would help them, that He would protect them from the wolves, and that He would let them reach camp. Louisa states, "As I was going back to where Mother was sitting, I found a pie in the road. I picked it up and gave it to mother to eat and after resting awhile, we started on our journey, thanking God for His blessings. A few miles before w reached camp we me met my father coming out to meet us. What a joyful meeting that was. We arrived in camp at 10:00 p.m. Many times after that, Mother felt like giving up and quitting, but then she would remember how wonderful the Lord had been to spare her so many time, and she offered a prayer of gratitude instead."
