A friend of mine couldn't go to this opera in SLC at the Capitol Theatre and gave us the tickets. Matt and I had never been to an opera before. I wore jeans. There were a couple other people in more casual attire, but most ladies were in dresses - plunging necklines, flowing trains or short mini skirts, mink coats, gold jewelry, etc etc. Over the top? I thought so.
Some fellows were in tuxedos. Really?
The concession stand sold little pairs of silver binoculars, and if bought, they definitely declared one's social status.
As for me, I'm just glad I was raised on a farm in the country.
